Very Important

  • To look after yourselves- catch up on sleep, exercise (walks are fine), and have "me" time regularly
  • Don't forget to spend 1:1 time with your partner
  • Parents are a team, learn to tag team in caring for the baby otherwise both will burn out
  • Organise with each other to have few hours in a day or couple of evenings in a week for yourself, that way you both can keep your batteries recharged!
  • Babies don't want perfect parents, they just want "good enough" ones- they want to know it's OK to make mistakes and learn...
  • Having a baby is life changing, so it's important to let go of your previous lifestyles to embrace/ enjoy your new role- some parents may need help with this process and it's absolutely OK
  • Babies grow rapidly and things are never the same, learn to live with unpredictability and change
  • As a parent, you are genetically and evolutionarily endowed with a reliable "gut" response- follow your instincts
  • There is no one way or the best way to do things, the best way is the way that works for you and your baby
