  • Get a referral addressed to Dr. Lakshmana from your GP or Specialist
  • Call 1800 73 37 25
  • Fax the referral  to 03 9012 7932

Dr Raju Lakshmana is a general adult psychiatrist who has worked in a broad range of clinical settings (public and private). 

He is a Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry with Rural Health Academic Centre and Senior Fellow with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne. He has public appointment as an Additional Director of Psychiatry with Goulburn Valley Health, Shepparton where he runs a telehealth clinic for their perinatal program and has set up novel models of mental health care in that Region.

His clinical interests are:

  • Peri-natal psychiatry
  • Consultation-Liaison psychiatry/ 291 consults
  • Acute Inpatient psychiatry
  • ECT/ neurostimulation
  • Telemedicine

He works out of Epworth Camberwell, Northpark Private Hospital and The Melbourne Clinic, and admits to the Mother Baby/ Perinatal MH units at Mitcham and Northpark Private Hospitals.

Dr. Lakshmana is also actively involved in undergraduate/ post-graduate teaching and clinical research; and has published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

He is available for providing out patient consultation to perinatal parents at The Melbourne Clinic (Richmond), Mitcham Private (Mitcham) and Northpark Private (Bundoora) Hospitals.

Consultation can also be provided by video where patients live in a telehealth eligible area (http://www.mbsonline.gov.au/internet/mbsonline/publishing.nsf/content/connectinghealthservices-eligible-geo) or at patient's request.

Please note that the consultation occurs on an elective basis, please contact services listed under "Getting Help" section of the website for emergency or urgent response. All communication to Dr. Lakshmana will be checked only periodically and you will be contacted by phone or mail to make further arrangements. Dr. Lakshmana reserves the right to prioritise and accept referrals, the outcome will be communicated to the referring doctor as soon as practicable.
